About the Talk

As automated vehicles continue to advance, human-driven and automated vehicles are likely to coexist in mixed traffic for an extended period. Dr. Liu's talk presented three studies examining human responses in this evolving environment:

  • Situation awareness and automation: Changes in situation awareness across different levels of automation.
  • Surrounding automated-vehicle behavior: Driver responses to aggressive behaviors of surrounding automated vehicles.
  • Human internal states: The roles of cognitive workload and emotion in human performance.

Together, these studies highlighted the dynamic relationships among automation, surrounding traffic, and human internal states in mixed-traffic systems.
