Project Title: Dual-Axis Aggression Detection from Driver Behavior and Physiology in Mixed Human-AV Traffic

Excited to share that our team received an internal grant to study aggressive driving and human–autonomous vehicle interaction in mixed traffic.

This project will use a CARLA–SUMO driving simulator to examine how human drivers respond to different autonomous vehicle driving styles, especially when AVs behave in assertive or aggressive ways. By collecting multimodal driving, physiological, and self-report data, we aim to better understand driver responses and develop AI-based tools for detecting lateral and longitudinal aggression.

We hope this work will contribute to safer, more cooperative mixed traffic and inform the design of future AV driving policies.

This award provides additional support for the MINDxAI Lab's Research Area I: Transportation and Automated Driving, particularly the lab's ongoing work on Aggressive Driving in Mixed Traffic.
